What with the scaffolding, the wholesale pallet board, the everpresent dust, the slatted walkways and the general disregard for aesthetics, the exteriors at the businesses that dot 1250 Prospect St. looked for most of the spring like a mountain of displaced hospital patients after an earthquake – but slowly and surely, the end is in sight, leaving one popular eatery to announce its reopening, new rear deck and all. The Hake Kitchen and Bar, which debuted at the address in the fall of 2013, will launch at its expanded digs June 27, with an expanded bar and a deck overlooking La Jolla Cove. The remodel will add 60 seats and 2,000 square feet to the interior; it’s part of a massive overhaul at the 1250 complex, which includes George’s at the Cove and Donovan’s Steak & Chop House. Mexico City-based designer Jorge Campos is creating an enhanced dining experience at The Hake to include an oyster bar and casual lounge area with a modern bar and a separate area for a relaxed take on fine dining. The Hake very quickly became known for its Latin-inspired locally source seafood dishes. Business at the address has continued (more or less) as usual, with some venues affected by the construction as early as January. The facelift is designed to make the exteriors more uniform amid the neighborhood’s height restrictions and haphazard collective facades.
