On Tuesday, May 16, at 7:26 p.m., the San Diego Police Department Communications Center received a 911 call from a man stating his friend’s father just killed his mother. Officers responded to 5579 Avenida Fiesta to check the welfare of the woman. Upon arriving, patrol officers entered the home in an attempt to locate the woman. They found an obviously deceased woman laying on a sofa in the living room who appeared to have been shot in the upper torso. The officers were not able to safely continue their search for additional victims or suspects in the home. The decision was made to leave the house, secure a perimeter, and have the Special Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT) respond to check the house for additional victims or suspects. During their search of the premises SWAT officers located an obviously deceased male in a downstairs storage area. The man appeared to have been shot in the upper torso. They located a handgun next to his body. Preliminary indications are the gun was used to shoot both decedents. The woman has been identified as Parvaneh Jilavi, 60 years old, of San Diego. The male has been identified as her husband John Mattiace, 80 years old, also of San Diego.
