San Diego Women’s Foundation grants $380,000 to nonprofits

The San Diego Women’s Foundation (SDWF) has celebrated its 20th anniversary by granting an all-time high of $380,000 to eight nonprofits whose work benefits refugees, asylees, and asylum seekers.

Thanks to the contributions of its members and a funding partnership with The San Diego Foundation (TSDF), SDWF awarded grants to the American Bar Association ($30,000); Casa Cornelia Law Center ($50,000); International Rescue Committee ($60,000); Jewish Family Service ($100,000); Karen Organization of San Diego ($25,000); The San Diego LGBT Community Center ($26,000); SAY San Diego ($35,000); and Survivors of Torture?International ($54,450).?

Since its founding in 2000, SDWF has now granted over $4 million to more than 100 nonprofit programs that benefit underserved communities in the San Diego region.

Executive director Katie Sawyer said: “We are deeply proud to support the life-changing work of these highly effective organizations, especially in a time of such great need. I am always so inspired to see SDWF members come together in support of our community.”

She added that during this funding cycle, SDWF worked closely with TSDF to leverage their partnership in greater service of the San Diego community. In alignment with the goals of the San Diego COVID-19 Community Response Fund, TSDF fully funded two of the proposals on the SDWF ballot that had the strong support of its members – those of Jewish Family Service and Karen Organization of San Diego.

“We’re grateful to TSDF for our two decades of partnership,” said Sawyer, “and we’re happy to continue to work together to benefit the San Diego community.”
