PB child actor to receive CARE award in Hollywood Local actor Diego Savoia, 10, of Pacific Beach will walk the red carpet to accept a unique Hollywood award this month. He will be receiving a Child Actor Recognition Event (CARE) award from BizParentz Foundation on April 30 at Universal Studios Hollywood. Billed as a kind of “anti-child-star-gone-bad” event, CARE honors over 150 of the industry’s brightest young stars for their positive contributions to the entertainment industry. To be eligible for a CARE award, young performers must work professionally in 2010, demonstrate good academics, community service, union membership, acting study and more. Their parents must even take a quiz on their business knowledge of the entertainment industry. Savoia is being recognized for his work on several local and national commercials, including Albertsons and Wisk Detergent. In December, Savoia played the lead in the short film “The Soldier and The Doll,” directed by Student Emmy Award-winning director Stephen Crutchfield. This month he booked a job for Chick-fil-A, his first SAG commercial. It will begin airing this fall. Savoia is a fourth-grader in Pacific Beach. He learned how to play guitar when he was six and enjoys being a member of an after-school rock band.
