The Pacific Beach Town Council (PBTC) celebrated community achievements and installed officers at its 60th annual installation reception Jan. 15 at the Soledad Club. The PBTC announced Rose Creek Cottage caretaker Mark Johnston as honorary mayor of Pacific Beach. “It’s a huge honor, [however] it’s really an honor for all the volunteers who’ve helped keep the Rose Creek Cottage up while preserving a valuable piece of Pacific Beach history,” Johnston said. Johnston and a host of Town Council volunteers put on Pacific Beach Summer Concerts on the Green at Kate Sessions Park. The concerts are held Sundays during the summer. Among those honored at the special event were Mission Bay High School student volunteers Kelly Tran and Sasha Helton. Tran, president of the Mission Bay High School Key Club, and Helton, president of the InterACT student organization, thought they were attending the event to work, but were recognized alongside Pacific Beach movers and shakers instead. “I was expecting to come sell tickets,” Helton said. Newly-installed PBTC officers for 2011 are President Joe Wilding, Vice President Jerry Hall, Secretary Michael McQuary and Treasurer Glenn Olson. The PBTC board of directors are Nini Balisteri, Chip Bonghi, Gregory Daunoras, Alan Harris, Cathie Jolley, Richard Kiser, Susan Lowary, Adam Meyer, Jeffrey Montez, Edward Reay, Marcia Zeddies and Grant Williams.
