Putting its best foot forward, Hennessey’s Tavern will host a neighborhood cleanup in Pacific Beach on Saturday, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. “We live and work here as well, and it’s our home and we want to take care of it … to keep it looking beautiful,” said Hennessey‘s general manager, Kevin Haagenson, a Pacific Beach resident. The day of the cleanup, volunteers will gather outside of Hennessey’s and each will be given tools, gloves and maps before hitting the beach and local neighborhoods most plagued by litter. Volunteers will be organized into groups to target different areas. Haagenson said he plans to send volunteers into Pacific Beach neighborhoods between Thomas and Diamond streets. An after-party at Hennessey’s, 4650 Mission Blvd., will feature a prize raffle, food and drink specials, he said. Each volunteer will receive two raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes. Haagenson said he plans to partner with other local businesses to offer additional prizes. Though this is the first cleanup sponsored by the local tavern, Haagenson said he is hopeful the event will occur more often after major holidays and summer events.
