Two senior members of Point Loma High’s CIF Open Division runner-up championship team have received post-season honors.
Team captain Will Barba received first team honors, placing him among the top 12 players in San Diego and Imperial Counties, while Chris Bourdon was selected for the second team.
Barba played center back for the Pointers.
“Will is a great leader who is an excellent one-on-one defender, dominant in the air, and has scored in two CIF finals,” said Pointer head coach Elliott Savitz.
Barba was recruited by Amherst College of Massachusetts, but has decided not to continue his playing career.
Bourdon, a center forward, quickly elevated his play as a Pointer.
“Chris is probably our most improved player,” Savitz noted. “He went from barely playing as a junior to hardly ever coming off the pitch as a senior. He is deadly when taking opponents on, creates numerous chances with effective dribbling and scores in the big games.”
Bourdon plans to play at Cal State Los Angeles in the fall.
The Pointer boys soccer team ended the season with a record of 12-8-5 and became the school’s first-ever team to reach an Open Division final.
