A series of punishing winter storms entered a second day Tuesday, delivering whipping winds and, at times, torrential rain that inundated coastal streets and created traffic nightmares for motorists. Rain was projected to remain heavy through Tuesday night with strong winds, although some slight relief from the wild weather may occur Wednesday. The brunt of the storms may still lie ahead, however, with thunderstorms and perhaps much heavier rainfall Thursday With possible flash floods a stark reality at least through Thursday, the Ocean Beach MainStreet Association (OBMA) is recommending merchants obtain free sand bags as soon as possible. Sand bags may be obtained at the lifeguard station, 1950 Abbott Street. OBMA urges merchants to bring a shovel to take advantage of the sand just a few yards away. Closure twine is attached to the burlap bags. OBMA officials also urge merchants to put the business name or address on the sand bags because thefts have already been reported. For more information, contact the OBMA at (619) 224-4906.
