Kowtowing to history

Little did the cows on the left suspect they’d one day become part of La Jolla lore. Even if they did, they’d have nothing to say on the matter, because cows can’t talk. Humans, however, can and will – and on the morning of March 13, they did just that as students from El Capitan High School’s Future Farmers of America program transported 11 cows to the site where the original iconic “Cows on the Beach” picture was taken at La Jolla Shores in 1906. The event was hosted by the La Jolla Historical Society, and the cows were provided by the Van Ommering Dairy and Eden Vale Dairy farms. If you were in India, such a portrait wouldn’t be a big deal, as cattle are revered there and can pretty much go where they want – to see them so close to local waters is by contrast a little slice of area fantasy.
