Point Loma cross country runs to wins

Point Loma’s cross country runners have been earning recognition in recent meets.
Junior Jake Richardson finished first in a field of 110 runners at the recent inaugural Ian Cumming/Tim Latham Invitational meet involving 40 teams. Held at Chula Vista’s Rohr Park, Richardson won the 5K in a time of 15:58.17, winning by a wide margin of 21 seconds over his nearest competitor.
Richardson’s win helped the Pointers to a third-place finish in the Red Devils division of the meet behind champion Scripps Ranch and second place Otay Ranch.
Earlier, Richardson won the junior boys race in the Wolf Pack Invitational at West Hills High with a time of 9:48 on a 2.1-mile course, leading Point Loma to the team title.
The Pointer girls won the team title at the Rohr Park event despite not having an individual winner. Senior Katherine Taylor was fourth in a field of 107 as her team defeated Eastlake 54-68 for the championship.
The girls’ team is currently listed sixth in San Diego CIF rankings.
