Possible delays seen as I-5/Genesee ramp work begins

Crews began work March 18 to place temporary concrete barriers and restripe lanes on the Interstate 5/Genesee Avenue interchange, which could lead to traffic delays. From 7 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m. March 19 to 20, up to three lanes of the northbound and southbound freeway will be closed intermittently between Voigt Drive and Sorrento Valley Road, according to Caltrans. The southbound Roselle Street on-ramp and the Interstate 5/Genesee Avenue on-ramps and off-ramps will also be closed intermittently. The work is scheduled to pick up again on Sunday, March 22, and intermittent lane closures on the northbound freeway will occur between Genesee Avenue and Roselle Street, Caltrans said. Caltrans officials said delays were to be expected and advised motorists to avoid the area if possible. The work is part of a $105 million project to replace the existing Genesee Avenue overcrossing with a 10-lane structure. It is expected to be completed in 2017. — City News Service
