LA JOLLA — The Surfrider Foundation San Diego Chapter will be hosting a lawn patrol event on Sunday, Nov. 7, to help people identify what does and does not make what they call an “Ocean Friendly Garden” (OFG). The foundation will be showing an OFG that Surfrider volunteers and OFG program participants helped install during a hands-on workshop. According to a statement by Surfrider, OFGs use native and climate appropriate plants, use efficient irrigation, have healthy soil and mulch and capture rainwater for reuse or to recharge groundwater tables and prevent runoff. If the foundation finds someone with an OFG in place, we will leave a note telling them how they can qualify for an OFG sign. The group will be meeting Sunday at Meet at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, located at 5627 La Jolla Blvd., at 9:45 a.m. and the walk will take about 90 minutes.
