The University City 9- and-10-year-old Little League All-Stars recently won the San Diego District 32 Championship.
The team won five straight games to capture the gold.
In the process, UC outscored its opponents by a combined score of 41-9.
According to Tom Scheidt, team manager and a UC Little League participant himself back in the 1970s, “It’s been a real long time since our league won a district championship. We are so proud of all the players, and it was great to see the community rally around our team for the final game.”
Throughout the tournament, the team received outstanding pitching from Craigie Grubbe and Matt Yandel.
Other players contributing to the championship were Bryce Ackermann, Connor Bailey, Chris Churness, Spencer Harrison, David Kurtz, Hunter Mackman, Ben Mitchell, Brady Owens, Mitchell Provencher, Steven Scheidt and Quinn Skillin.
Coaches for the team were Josh Craig and Eric Ackermann.
