On Monday, Jan. 16, roughly 200-gallons of diesel fuel overflowed at Sunrise Senior Center, located at the Intersection of La Jolla Mesa Drive and Turquoise Street. An onlooker counted at least 6 fire trucks, several Hazmat trucks, SDPD cars, and several other emergency vehicles. San Diego Fire-Rescue Captain Joe Amador believes that the spill could have happened over the previous weekend, but had his crews quickly respond after it was reported. Hazardous materials crews later determined that there no flammable vapors in the underground garage of the assisted-living facility, and worked to clean up the spill.
