Fronted by singer Jesse Malley and guitarist Jim Irwin, San Diego-based quintet The Tilt plays a terrific mix of Southern blues, country and folk, with a touch of classic rock, a la Led Zeppelin. Its recent batch of recordings show the group to be superb musicians, with Irwin’s stinging guitar lines a perfect match for Malley’s sultry, passionate vocals. As good as those recordings are, The Tilt is even better live, with a wonderfully eclectic set that can include mandolin-led tunes such as “Restless” or country slide-guitar workout “Oil Man” — all played with equal ease.
