With three touchdowns from senior running back Chris Byrd, pictured above, ninth-seeded Mission Bay High School upset eighth-seeded Palo Verde Valley High School 20-14 on the road in the first round of the Division IV CIF high school football playoffs Nov. 19. The defending champion Buccaneers (3-8) have won three out of their last four games and advance to face top-seeded Valley Center (10-0) in the quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 26. The quarterfinal matchup is a rematch of last year’s Division IV championship game, which Mission Bay won 48-17.
