Losang Samten, a renowned Buddhist monk, Tibetan scholar and student of the Dalai Lama, along with The Ivy Hotel, gave San Diegans the rare opportunity to witness the ancient rite of the creation and dismantling of the Wheel of Life mandala in September.
Samten creates his mandala using the Tibetan art form of sand painting. Tibetan Buddhism views life as a cycle of birth, death and rebirth called samsara. The Wheel of Life is a visual aid to better understand this cyclical existence.
