
The San Diego Padres announced they have agreed to terms with left-handed pitcher Osvaldo Hernandez. Executive vice president/general manager A.J. Preller made the announcement.
The 18-year-old Cuba native pitched in Cuba’s Under-18 league in 2016, posting a 0.92 ERA in 68.2 innings pitched with 84 strikeouts against 23 walks. In October 2016, the 6-0, 175-pound left-hander pitched for Cuba in the COPABE Under-18 Pan American Championship in Mexico. He faced the United States twice, allowing three runs on five hits in 9.2 innings pitched.
