Powerful surf has caused significant damage to the Ocean Beach Pier, which remains closed on Jan. 18. Storm surge also resulted in road closures at Newport and Abbott in Ocean Beach. In Pacific Beach, the waves breached berms along the sand. With high tides and large waves, San Diego Fire-Rescue Department lifeguards are on patrol in the beach areas.
