Youth Tennis San Diego announces new leadership

Youth Tennis San Diego, the owner and operator of Barnes Tennis Center, 4490 West Point Loma Blvd., announced March 31 that Darren Miller has been brought on as its program and facility director.
“I am looking forward to building new and exciting tennis programs at Barnes Tennis Center, and to being a part of a team that is committed to taking this club to the next level,” said Miller. “On and off the court, this club has a loyal fan base deserving of fresh programs and an environment that fosters the culture of the sport of tennis.”
Youth Tennis San Diego is a nonprofit (501)(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting the educational, physical, and social development of all youth through organized tennis and educational activities. Its community programs encourage youth participation, personal integrity, leadership, and competitive spirit in a friendly environment that builds responsible citizens.
“Darren is not only an expert tennis professional on the court, but he also has true, demonstrated capabilities in managing high-level tennis programs and facilities”, said Kerry Blum, Youth Tennis San Diego’s executive director. “We are fortunate that he has joined our team. In the short time he has been with us, he has earned the adoration of our players, youth and adults alike.” Miller was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. After immigrating to the United States in 1988, Miller started his playing career in Calabasas, Calif. A top-ranked junior player in Southern California and the nation, he went on to play collegiate tennis, with all four years at UCLA under coach Billy Martin.
Following his collegiate career, Miller focused his efforts on growing programs at some of the most prestigious clubs in California, including Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks; Westlake Village Inn Tennis Club in Westlake Village; and the Paseo Club located in Valencia. Miller has extensive knowledge in managing both public and private tennis facilities. Miller, his wife and three boys live in Coronado.
