The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series recently announced that Synchrony Financial, a consumer financial services company, will become the new title partner for the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego Marathon & ½ Marathon. The event, which features live bands performing at every mile along the course, returns to San Diego the weekend of June 3-4 and will celebrate 20 years running this year.
Synchrony Financial Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego will welcome more than 30,000 marathon and half-marathon runners, showcasing some of San Diego’s most iconic neighborhoods. The races will take off from Balboa Park and travel through Hillcrest, North Park and Normal Heights before the marathon breaks from the half marathon at mile 8. The marathon route will also run through Mission Hills, Old Town and Mission Bay Park before both distances finish downtown at Waterfront Park.
In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, live bands, enthusiastic cheerleaders and spectators line the race route, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival and post race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series headlined by Michael Franti and Spearhead.
The race will once again feature two-days of running with a 5K on Saturday, part of what’s dubbed the Remix Challenge. Runners who complete the 5K, plus any distance on Sunday, will receive a medal for each race, plus an exclusive Remix Challenge medal.
Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The expo takes place at the San Diego Convention Center on Friday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The expo is free and open to the public. Last fall, Synchrony Financial and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series announced a series-wide sponsorship. The company also signed on for the second consecutive year as a title partner for the Synchrony Financial Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn Half Marathon, which will take place on Oct. 14.
“Our purpose statement to pioneer the future of financing and improve the success of every business we serve and the quality of each life we touch is embodied in our partnership with the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series,” said Bart Schaller, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, Synchrony Financial. “These events encourage health and fitness, providing our employees and race participants with positive opportunities to work forward to their personal ambitions and goals.”
