The annual Bikes, Boards and Brews event promoting the best in local hops and eats will be Saturday, May 6 at a new venue: Crown Point Park.
The event recalls the endless summer days at Tourmaline Beach with surf boards, beach cruisers, beach-inspired art and craft-beer tasting, plus offering amazing bay views from Crown Point Park. It includes unique displays of vintage surfboards, classic beach cruisers and locally inspired art.
Participants will enjoy tasters from San Diego’s best craft brewers and food pairings from Pacific Beach and Mission Beach restaurants, live entertainment, a bike show and more.
Previously held at the Catamaran Hotel, the locale for this year’s event, to be held from 1 to 5 p.m. with a preceding VIP hour from noon to 1 p.m., was shifted to the park at 3600 Corona Oriente Road.
“The move to Crown Point Shores will allow us to expand our bike show and add more brewers and artists,” said Sara Berns, executive director of event host Discover PB. “The idea behind this event is to experience your local favorites — or maybe a new place — you’ve never tried before and see that PB has a strong presence in the craft beer movement.”
Berns noted San Diegans typically associate great beer joints with other neighborhoods. She added, “But we have them here at the beach.”
Participating breweries and restaurants include: PB Alehouse, Iron Fire Brewery, Coronado Brewing, Amplified Ale Works, The Lost Abbey, Firestone Walker Brewery, Resident Brewing, Refuge Brewery, Mikkeller Brewing, Bitter Brothers Brewery, Lagunitas, Embarcadero Brewing, SD Tap Room, Woodstock’s Pizza, Sandbar, The Fish Shop, Cerveza Jack’s, Bareback, Tavern at the Beach, and Board and Brew.
Event proceeds help fund Discover PB programs like the Clean and Safe program for community beautification. Bikes, Boards and Brews is a great way to support the community while sampling some of PB’s best restaurants and local beers.
Cost is $40 general admission, $45 for VIPs. Bike contest entry is $45, which includes VIP admission and entry into bike contest. VIP guests get an additional hour to enjoy beer and food samples and meet PB brewers.
The bike show, presented by Pacific Coast Bicycle, features three categories: Best Custom, Best Old School and People’s Choice.
