ATHENAEUM HOSTS DIALOGUES IN ART & ARCHITECTURE SERIES

Liza Lou — who first gained attention in 1996 when her room-sized sculpture Kitchen was shown at the New Museum in New York — will be the subject of the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library’s free “Dialogues in Art & Architecture” talk on Thursday, April 4 at 7:30 p.m.

On Thursday, April 25 at 7:30 p.m., collaborative artists Debby and Larry Kline — whose works have been featured in many solo and group exhibitions — will be the next speakers. Art critic Robert Pincus will moderate both talks.

All talks are held at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room, 1008 Wall St. For reservations, call 858-454-5872 or visit ljathenaeum.org/special-lectures.

CHILDREN’S SCHOOL CELEBRATES GREAT ARTIST PROGRAM

Join The Children’s School in celebrating the 20th annual Great Artists program with the upcoming Grand Finale Art Exhibit. The event will take place on Thursday, April 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the school located at 2225 Torrey Pines Lane in La Jolla.

The Great Artists program, a unique hallmark of The Children’s School, encourages children from toddlers through eighth grade to develop an appreciation of art as they study specific artists’ style and explore a variety of art mediums. During the seven-week program, students explore the life, work and artistic style of a chosen artist through an integrated curriculum consisting of developmentally appropriate activities in humanities, math, science, and art.

During the Great Artists Grand Finale, classrooms are transformed into creative art museums showcasing the student’s artistic endeavors. The school invites the public to discover how great works of art from masters can inspire a true appreciation of the fine arts in children.
