Karl Strauss Brewing Company kicks off summer art and music series
Do you know what goes great with beer? Local art and independent music.

Karl Strauss Brewing Company is kicking off its annual Arts and Amps summer series on May 25 with artwork from Cohort Collective and Creative Souls on the West Coast and with performances by Little Hurricane and Wild Wild Wets. The event, held once a month from May to July at Karl Strauss’ tasting room, has been bringing together art, beer, and music for five years.

“Each event we bring together local bands, usually there’s two, and we partner with local artists, which looks a little different every time,” said Alyssa Powers, marketing brand manager for Karl Strauss. “Usually it’s a live mural that they’re painting during the event right in front of you.”

“It combines those three elements into a fun little party.”

The first event will feature Little Hurricane, who has developed a following for their bluesy, rock-forward tunes, and Wild Wild Wets, a psychedelic band with a straight-up rock ‘n roll sound. Cohort Collective will be creating a mural “live, right in front of your eyes,” and Creative Souls on the West Coast will bring a few local artists to show off their pieces in Karl Strauss’ Barrel Room.

“It’s a little bit like a mini gallery,” Powers said, adding that while fun is the ultimate goal of the event, it’s also good to promote the creative ventures of local San Diegans.

“We’re super proud of our independent roots and our local roots so we reach out to others in different industries to create that authentic relationship,” Powers said. “We knew that these events are great to not only show off our beer and invite people into our home so to speak, but to bring in some local artists along with us.”

The first Arts and Amps event will be held at 4:30 p.m., May 25 at the Karl Strauss Tasting Room, 5985 Santa Fe St. The second event will be held on June 22 and will feature Trouble in the Wind and Parker Meridian. The third event will be held on July 27 and will feature Creature Canyon and Taken By Canadians. The events are free and open to all ages. Food from Gringas Tacos will be available for purchase.
