This OB pig wants to surf and become an emotional support animal

Betito is one motivated pig. This summer, he wants to learn how to surf (and simultaneously get over his slight fear of water), finish taking his remaining classes to become a certified emotional support animal, and of course, expand his online presence. Not even 2 years old, Betito has captivated his over 1,000 Instagram followers with his Ocean Beach adventures, thanks to his owner Brittany Austin. “He’s like a toddler who never grows up,” Austin said while Betito was nose-deep in her purse, searching for snacks. “I have child locks on all my cabinets, a lock on my fridge. He’s very hands-on and requires a lot of attention.” Betito — which means either “Little Robert” or “Big Boy” in Spanish — is a type-two mini pig, meaning he’ll grow to be anywhere from 50 to 70 pounds. Austin says he’s comparable to the size of a French bulldog, only fatter. And it’s right to compare Betito to a dog because he thinks he is one. Not only does he walk on a leash, but the mini pig understands commands like sit, shake and spin around in both English and Spanish. Let’s see your French bulldog do that. “He’s not as playful as dogs, but he enjoys them and gives them kisses,” Austin said. “He’s even once tried to bark when he sees the mailman come.” As you might imagine, Betito can draw in quite the crowd when he’s out and about in OB. While Austin did a lot of research and preparation before she adopted him, she wasn’t quite prepared for the attention that she and Betito would get. “I thought it was just a pig, just an animal but sometimes it’s like the paparazzi is following us,” she laughed, adding that Betito doesn’t seem to mind. “I’ll be like ‘the paparazzi is here,’ and he picks up his pace a little. He loves people.” Which is exactly why Austin currently has him in training to become an emotional support animal. “He a good boy,” she said while Betito entertained a small crowd that had gathered around their wagon. “He can uplift anyone’s day.” To keep up with Austin and Betito’s adventures, follow them on Instagram at @PiggyBetito.
