Getting tribal, intimate jazz and hip-hop showcase Not to be confused with various bands of the same name plying their trade across the country, San Diego’s The Tilt is a group that performs original classic-style rock ’n’ roll with more than a hint of Southern blues and country influences running through its songs. The quartet is helmed by whiskey- and-honey-throated singer Jesse Malley (think Sam Phillips with a bit of twang), with guitarist Jeff Irwin, bassist Ryan Weiss and drummer Mike Stone. As impressive as their musicianship is, where the band really scores is in its excellent songwriting — from the revved up, correctly-titled “Rock Me Right” to the mandolin-led lament “Restless.” The Tilt performs at 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at RT’s Longboard, 1466 Garnet Ave. 21 and up, www.thetiltmusic.com Reggae band Tribal Seeds kicks off a two-month nationwide tour with a show at the Wavehouse on April 16. Now a headline act and festival favorite around the country, the band has two albums to its credit. But where it really excels is in the live arena with a confidence onstage built on years of roadwork. There are many good reggae acts in San Diego — most happy to stay hometown heroes — but Tribal Seeds has its eye on a much bigger audience. He first appeared on record with the English Beat in 1982, quickly teaming up for recording projects with the likes of UB40, Sting and even San Diego’s own Private Domain for a 1987 hit “Absolute Perfection.” Whether you’re a reggae fan or just like your tunes full of rhythm and rhyme, Banton’s shows are never less than fun and frantic. Pato Banton performs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22 at Brick by Brick, 1130 Buenos Ave. 21 and up. $20. www.patobanton.com Trumpeter Bruce Cameron, who performs at Café Bar Europa on April 22, has been a mainstay of the local jazz scene for four decades. Along the way, he’s performed with everyone from Lena Horne to Sonny Rollins. This night’s intimate surroundings provide the great atmosphere for a romantic evening out, with Cameron’s jazz as the perfect soundtrack. San Diego is fortunate to have so many jazz all-stars. Bruce Cameron with Full House performs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22 at Café Bar Europa, 873 Turqouise St. All ages. www.theturquoise.com/wordpress Pacific Beach nightspot the 710 Beach Club continues to be one the main venues in town for touring hip-hop acts to perform, bringing in dozens of performers over the last few years that otherwise might not play San Diego. Such is the case with Miami-based Art Official, which performs at the club on April 22. A funk/hip-hop/jazz hybrid, the band lays down a serious groove with a backbeat that’s impossible to resist. The band isn’t adverse to showing its rock influences, such as on “Voodoo” with its Hendrix-styled backing, but this music is made to get an audience on the dance floor.
