THURSDAY, May 30 Correia Middle School’s award-winning bands will perform a spring concert. The guitar ensembles are slated to perform at 6:30 p.m. in the Correia Auditorium. Admission is free. Raffles and concessions benefit the Correia music program. FRIDAY, May 31 Loma Portal Elementary Spring Fling Music Festival will take place at 5:30 p.m., 3341 Browning St. Students in the school’s music program will be performing in a tribute to the local community. Local restaurants will supply food and there will be other entertainment. The proceeds from the event go to benefit the school’s music program and other school needs. The event is open to the public. SATURDAY, June 1 Silver Gate Elementary School will host a Beautification Day from 9 a.m. to noon at the campus, located at 1499 Venice St. Members of the Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church and Silver Gate Elementary School families will spruce up the school’s kindergarten area. The event is open to the public. For more information, call principal Sandra McClure at (619) 222-1139. JUNE 10-26 The San Diego Continuing Education’s West City Campus will host a free, three-week health class in Point Loma. The class, “Health and Wellness for the Aging Process,” is geared for those age 55 and older who engage in less to moderately active health regimes and physical activities. The class provides a focus on health content, which is supported by physical activities that include chair and standing exercises, strength training, balance, stretching and stress-reduction techniques. Students should wear appropriate clothing and shoes for physical activity. Classes take place Mondays and Wednesdays from 1:15 to 3:30 p.m. at 3249 Fordham St., Room 124-B. THURSDAY, June 13 The Point Loma Ocean Beach Realty Association will host a blood drive for the San Diego Blood Bank from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the United Portuguese S.E.S. Hall, located at 2818 Avenida De Portugal. The blood bank has established a goal of 40 pints for the blood drive. However, realty association members said they hope to double that amount. The general public is invited to participate. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 19 The Point Loma Peninsula Republican Women’s monthly luncheon meeting will be 10 a.m., featuring a program by Dan Lamborn, assistant chief deputy district attorney. His talk will focus on Sharia law. There will be a no-host lunch. Guests are welcome, but are asked to RSVP by June 12 to Marilyn at (619) 222-9532. The event takes place at the Bali Hai Resort’s Tiki Room on Shelter Island.
