Brat Trot, Sausage Toss and stein-holding contests keep OB Oktoberfest weird and wild

The 13th annual Ocean Beach Oktoberfest, a two-day eclectic beachside festival Oct. 6-7, will showcase numerous exciting activities, contests and entertainment, with proceeds benefiting local nonprofits.
Festivities kick off Friday at noon with the Oktoberstretch yoga festival, beer garden, live music and games, from noon to 11 p.m.
The fun resumes Saturday morning with the OB Brat Trot and Drill Instructor workout, followed by a German micro-brew tasting benefiting the Warrior Foundation Freedom Station, live music, and the much-loved annual competitions. Those include the Sausage Toss Competition for a cash prize, bratwurst-eating contest, Ms. Oktoberfest, stein-holding, and more.
Saturday will also include a free beachside all-ages stage with performances by an OB Oktoberfest band, along with a food and craft vendor area on the Veterans Plaza lawn.
“It’s a quirky and fun event that raises money for the community, mainly youth sports and Ocean Beach beautification projects,” said Denny Knox, OBMA’s executive director. “So far, OB Oktoberfest has raised approximately $250,000 for the community.”
Knox added the fall classic event “is very popular and brings a lot of shoppers downtown. It’s the kind of event where you can pop in the beer garden to hear your favorite band, and then meet friends up and down the street. Lots of people enter the various contests and really enjoy being near the beach for all the activities.”
Traditional bratwurst-eating, stein-holding contests and the outrageous balloon-blow, as well as the annual Ms. Oktoberfest competition, will also be held Saturday. Participants will compete for cash prizes in the infamous, one-of-a kind Sausage Toss competition. A cash prize of $1,000 is guaranteed to the winner.
The event ends each night at 11 p.m.
Admission to the beer garden is $5 and supports the Ocean Beach community. OB Oktoberfest is presented by Ocean Beach MainStreet Association, Hoy Hoy Boys and the Ocean Beach Community Foundation. For tasting tickets and more information, visit OBOktoberfest.com. OB Oktoberfest
