
Up-and-comers get a showcase; get ready for spicy Cinco de Mayo Formed in 1987, glam metal band Bango Tango, which performs at Brick by Brick on April 28, never cracked the big time. But its five albums to date have earned it a legion of die-hard fans. Today, the band only includes frontman Joe Leste from their major label heyday, but the song remains the same. If your idea of a good time involves loud rock ‘n’ roll in the tradition of T-Rex, The New York Dolls and Guns and Roses, this show will put a smile on your face and leave their sound ringing in your ears. On April 30, the venue hosts six up-and-coming acts on a diverse bill, including punk rockers Dying to Wake, jam band Zutra, alt rock and reggae hybrid Reef Bound Sol, electronic dance from “d,” as well as sets from The Legacy Pack and Hit Dog Hollar. If you’re looking for new sounds, this is a great way to check out a lot of up-and-coming talent in one go. Mixing Brazilian music, reggae and Latin jazz, Todo Mundo emerges with a sound that’s all about rhythm and excitement. Best of all this special afternoon concert leaves the evening free for further partying on one of the year’s biggest nights out. The blues, not so much. 2012 marks 100 years since the first blues composition was copyrighted, so it’s only fitting that interest in this music genre is at an all-time high. Fans of the blues won’t want to miss Big Daddy Blues, which performs at the Pacific Beach Library/Taylor Branch Library on May 11, 6 p.m. With standards the order of the day, this is a great opportunity to take in classic Americana in a unique setting.
