Bird Rock puts its homes on parade once again

Those looking for interior design inspiration need look no further. Tour beautifully appointed dwellings at the eighth annual Bird Rock Home Tour fundraiser benefiting Bird Rock Elementary School on Saturday, Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Ticket price is $20 for a self-guided tour of some of the finest residences in Bird Rock’s elegant single-family neighborhoods.
Sponsored by the Bird Rock Community Council (BRCC), the event’s lead sponsor for the fifth consecutive year is Tim Golba of Golba Architecture, along with Realtor Linda Daniels, Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, Girard Avenue Collection, Hydrangea Cove, State Farm agent Bobby Sukhanil, Home Care La Jolla and Andrew Ward of Edward Jones.
“You pick up the program the day of the event at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters (5627 La Jolla Blvd.) and all of the homes are in Bird Rock neighborhoods,” said Noel Ehlers, who chairs the event along with Katie Dillon.
Each home has its own distinct style and charm reflecting the uniqueness of the Bird Rock neighborhood.
Ehlers said the home tour is a homegrown event.
“The grass-roots effort gets a lot of support from the community, the neighborhood and the school,” she said. “There is a lot of local pride. Our sponsors, many of whom have kids at the elementary school, have invested in their neighborhoods.”
One of the homes featured on this year’s tour is that of BRCC member Anne Telford and her family. Telford hinted those viewing her home should expect a departure from past years.
“Our home is different from the majority of homes that have been on previous tours,” Telford said, noting that’s partly because of her family’s long history, now into its fourth generation, as residents there.
“It’s a Spanish-revival house that was built in 1934 and my grandpa bought it in the 1940s,” she said. “I grew up here, went to Bird Rock Elementary, then moved away and came back.”
Telford said she has lots of photos and illustrations in her home of people noted in the arts who’ve been featured in national and international design publications.
“My home doesn’t have a beach theme, though I’m five blocks from the beach,” Telford said. “My house is probably a lot more full of art and color than most of the homes that have been shown on the tour.”
Photography is not allowed on the tour.
The event showcases the pride in homeownership. Discover an abundance of creative ideas for your home while supporting a good cause, as all proceeds benefit Bird Rock Elementary School.

The six homes on this year’s tour will only be revealed on the day of the event.
