San Diego Bayfair recently announced that HomeStreet Bank will be the 2016 San Diego Bayfair title sponsor. Bayfair will take place Sept. 16-18 on Mission Bay. HomeStreet’s sponsorship makes possible the family-friendly outdoor event that has become a San Diego tradition since 1964.
“We’re pleased that HomeStreet Bank has come on board as the title sponsor for this year’s San Diego Bayfair,” said Bob Davies, Bayfair’s race director. “Their sponsorship helps ensure the tradition of racing on Mission Bay continues. Families, including my own, have been coming together for generations to celebrate our community, enjoy good food and drink, and watch amazing boat racing. Visitors from around the country and the globe are set to join us to enjoy the fun-filled weekend.”
HomeStreet Bank also sponsors a hydroplane boat in the H1 Unlimited series, which will be racing at Bayfair.
“We are thrilled to be the title sponsor of this year’s Bayfair,” said Mark Mason, HomeStreet’s president & CEO. “We’re anxious to become more involved in the San Diego community, and this sponsorship provides a great venue for us to become more connected with the people of Mission Bay and the surrounding area. We are proud to have been a part of the vibrant San Diego community for a number of years with three home loan centers and now our two new bank branches in Mission Gorge and Kearny Mesa.”
HomeStreet Bank is also supporting a hydroplane promotional tour prior to Bayfair to promote Military Appreciation Day on Saturday, Sept. 17, with free admission for all active-duty military and reservists (with military ID). Additionally, military families will receive half off of admission.
Fans will also have the opportunity to view an H1 Unlimited boat up close and learn more about hydroplane racing at one of the following locations where the Miss HomeStreet U1 will be making special appearances the week preceding Bayfair. The schedule is subject to change.
Saturday, Sept. 10, Qualcomm Stadium for the San Diego State vs. Cal game;
Sunday, Sept. 11, Petco Park for the San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies game;
Monday, Sept. 12, Camp Pendleton commissary;
Tuesday, Sept. 13, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar;
Wednesday, Sept. 14, North County Fair Escondido.
San Diego Bayfair has a rich history on Mission Bay with the first race staged in 1964. Thanks to the foresight of city leaders and the legendary hydroplane racer Bill Muncey, the race is the crown jewel of the H1 Unlimited Hydroplane Series. Bayfair started out as simply a hydroplane race and has grown into what one newspaper columnist described as “a three-ring circus” on the water. That description couldn’t be more apt as there is nonstop action on the water and land. The modern-day Bayfair features hydroplanes, offshore boats, and numerous other classes of boat racing. In recent years, the vendor village on East Village has been expanded to include inflatable jumpers, large slides and an art zone. Explore www.sandiegobayfair.org for more information.
