SUNDAY, May 13 Christ Lutheran Church in Pacific Beach will present a special Mother’s Day appearance of the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble from Russia at 4 p.m. The concert will feature music from the Russian tradition. There will be a free-will donation and a reception follows at the church, 4761 Cass St. For more information, call (858) 483-2300 SATURDAY, May 19 May has been nationally designated as Older Americans Month. In celebration of the 50-and-counting crowd, the San Diego Public Library System will host a free Senior Fair at the Pacific Beach/Taylor Branch Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Informative sessions include one conducted by local “Money Matters” host George Chamberlin, who will explain how to outwit scam artists who prey on seniors. Other topics include tech talk for beginners — including demonstrations on downloading e-Books to an e-Reader; tai chi and zumba gold classes; free health screenings at the AARP/Walgreen’s mobile clinic; and other activities. There will be door prizes, free refreshments with music on the plaza by the Third Season Jazz Ensemble and popular local songstress Tracy Benson. SUNDAY, May 20 • The local Soroptimist Club will host a yard sale to benefit various community projects in Pacific Beach and elsewhere in San Diego. The yard sale takes place from 8 a.m. to noon at 1234 Turquoise St. For more information, call (858) 488-0211. • “Blues by the Bay” Silent Auction and Dinner at 5 p.m. at the Mission Beach Woman’s Club, 840 Santa Clara Place. Tickets are $20 at the door and include dinner, beverages and live entertainment by the popular Big Daddy Blues Band.
