
A number of graduates with ties to the area have been busy on the collegiate sports scene this fall.
Katherine Fiedler (The Bishop’s School) of Lewis & Clark College (Ore.) was named to the All-Northwest Conference second team in post-season honors for women’s volleyball. This is the second straight year the Pioneers have had a player named to the second team.
Fiedler led the Conference in blocking this season, averaging 1.29 blocks per game. She was ranked 27th among all Division III volleyball players in blocking.
She ended the season with 121 total blocks. Her 50 solo blocks ranks fourth on the Lewis & Clark all-time list for most in a single season. Her 71 block assists ranks second on the L&C books.
Fiedler also ranked among the Conference elite in hitting, posting the fifth-best attack percentage (.284), landing 282 kills with just 105 errors in 628 attacks. Fiedler was one of just two freshmen to earn All-NWC recognition.
Alex Kearney (La Jolla High) is a member of the Bentley College (Mass.) women’s volleyball team.
Bentley fell to Dowling College last Friday night in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Northeast Regional.
In the loss, Kearney topped the Falcons with 11 kills.
Tyler Jemmett (The Bishop’s School) is a sophomore on the UCLA men’s water polo team.
Jemmett had two goals in UCLA’s recent 14-6 win over UC Santa Barbara. The Bruins came into the match-up as the third-ranked team in the country.
Nico Sardo (The Bishop’s School), Will Cherashore (The Bishop’s School) and Andrey Artamonov (The Bishop’s School) are all members of the USC men’s water polo team.
The Trojans came into play last week ranked second in the country following a win over Pacific.
Sam Busby (La Jolla High) is a sophomore on the Pepperdine University men’s water polo team.
Pepperdine tallied a season-high scoring victory over UC San Diego (22-8) in recent action.
