UC Senior Center moves
The University City Senior Center of Jewish Family Service of San Diego will move to Congregation Beth Israel, 9001 Towne Centre Drive, effective Oct. 1.
The new location offers additional space, including a social hall and classrooms. Once settled in, the center plans to offer field trips, fitness classes, musical performances, lectures and intergenerational programs.The center will continue to serve a hot kosher lunch at a nominal charge. Transportation for UC residents is available for $5 roundtrip.
The UC Senior Center will also add a day of operation at Congregation Beth Israel; in addition to being open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., it will be open on Wednesdays.
An open house spotlighting all the center’s exciting additions will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information, call (858) 637-3040 or visit www.jfssd.org.
Historical Society lunch features Penner
The La Jolla Historical Society’s annual Ellen Browning Scripps Luncheon, honoring the birthday of one of La Jolla’s renowned philanthropists, will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club.
La Jollan Gloria Penner, award-winning broadcast journalist with KPBS and locally produced NPR, will be the guest speaker.
The luncheon begins at 11:30 a.m. at the Beach & Tennis Club, 2000 Spindrift Drive. Tickets are $55 for Historical Society members, $65 for others.

Wyland invites children to paint
Marine-life artist Wyland will make an appearance on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Birch Aquarium, 2300 Expedition Way.
Children visiting the aquarium between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. can help paint a mural with Wyland. The 20-foot painting is a centerpiece of Wyland’s “Every Drop Counts” promotion of clean water.
The aquarium will also offer other hands-on activities and entertainment during Wyland’s visit. All activities are included with aquarium admission.

Wine lovers beat feet to Turquoise Grape Stomp
What better way to celebrate the traditional last days of the grape harvest than by jumping barefoot into a tub of grapes and stomping the juice out of them?
The second annual Turquoise Street Grape Stomp returns to the Turquoise Café Bar Europa Sunday, Sept. 30, for an afternoon of music, food and lots of grapes.
The event is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m., with free appetizers and tapas beginning at 2 p.m. The grape stomps are scheduled at 4 and 5 p.m. at 873 Turquoise St.
