WHAT'S IN THE AIR, BUD?

The Hercules of Pacific Beach? As I was running at the water’s edge along Sail Bay the other morning, I marveled at the abundant wild life — the cranes, pelicans, sand pipers and sea gulls. A lobster was crawling along near the Catamaran Hotel’s pier in the crystal-clear water as a school of fish swam by. All of God’s creatures were working in harmony doing what they’ve done for thousands of years — searching for something to eat. The Catamaran has one of the most beautiful saltwater fish tanks in its Moray Bar. I’ve been going there for years. The tank is stocked with a giant moray eel, lionfish and yellow and blue tang, just to name a few. The Catamaran is an outstanding resort right here in our own backyard. I have my own fish tank at home and am regularly adding fish to it. I find it so relaxing to look at. Anyone who has fish or has interest in pets of nearly every kind knows about Pet Kingdom on Sports Arena Boulevard. It’s a candy store of pets. They have everything under the sun, with the exception of dogs and cats and birds. It’s quite a busy little destination. That’s where I first went six months ago to buy my new fish tank. There, I was greeted by Chris Ausman, one of their salesman, a gentle giant and a Pacific Beach resident. He shook my hand and asked me what I was looking for. He looked like a combination of a young Arnold Schwarzenegger and The Rock. He was massively ripped and inked with tats. Curiously, I asked him if he was a mixed martial-arts fighter. “No, I just like to take care of my body,” he said. “I enjoy spending time at the gym, playing the guitar and chasing pretty girls. I mean this is Pacific Beach.” “I couldn’t agree more,” I told Chris. I also mentioned having worked with “The Governator” on the Letterman show. I added, “You look like a modern day Hercules!” He laughed and shrugged it off. Chris, or ‘Herc’ as I call him, set me up with a great aquarium. We’ve become great friends. I’ve been developing a reality show based on the diverse lifestyle of the many wonderful people who live in our beautiful seaside town, our beloved Pacific Beach. I am determined to have Chris star in it. He is so kind and a truly genuine — a downright nice guy. Move over “Jersey Shore” and the “Situation,” there’s a new stud in town. You can call him PB’s own Herc! — Kevin Di Cicco is the owner of Buddy the dog, who is best known for his roles in the long string of “Air Bud” movies and his ball-playing skills showcased on popular television show.
