Several local scholastic boys and girls lacrosse teams have stuck to their successful game plan to post wins to date.
On the girls side, La Jolla High School recently repeated its winning ways in tournament play at Stanford University, sweeping all five games to take the Western States Tournament.
La Jolla finished off Menlo-Atherton High (7-4), Davis High (9-1) and The Cate School (11-1) in pool play.
The semifinals game gave Menlo-Atherton one more shot at the Lady Vikes. La Jolla repeated its stellar performance and came away victorious, 7-4, to meet North County rival La Costa Canyon High in the tournament final.
In the 9-7 win over La Costa Canyon, Taryn Olson scored four times, with Bri Wright scoring twice and MacKenzie Gloven, Mia Cohen and Stefi Kalkstein each contributing one goal. Goalkeeper Kristen Ostosh recorded 10 saves.
Olson led the Lady Vikings for the tournament with 12 goals. Balanced play was evident, with Gloven scoring six, Cohen, Kalkstein and Wright each scoring five and Hannah Novick scoring four in the one-day event.
At The Bishop’s School, the Lady Knights under head coach Meghan Carr came into action this week with a record of 5-4.
In action last week, Bishop’s scored a 13-3 win over Preuss. Emily Reit and Riley Sexton both notched three goals, with two assists for Sexton. Jameson Kearney added a pair of goals, with one each from Caroline Markham, Nicole Ballon-Landa, Lia Sagerman, Lauren Neville and Katherine Collinson.
In an 8-6 loss to Torrey Pines, Bishop’s was led by Reit with a pair of goals and two assists. Felicity Bradley had a strong game with 17 saves against Torrey Pines.
“Felicity (Bradley) has really stepped to the plate this year with leading our defenses through her spirit and determination,” Carr said. “I have been really pleased with the team, as we are continuing to have multiple players score each game.”
On the boys side, The Bishop’s School and head coach Steve Sepeta came into this week with a record of 4-5.
Key players to date have included Will Geier (midfield), Dillon DuPont (attack), Patrick Wafer (attack), Scott Bollert (defense) and Luis Montiel (goalie).
“We are 4-5 but have played a pretty tough schedule so far,” Sepeta said. “Our goal is to win the rest of our games and take the Coastal League title.”
