Chargers go camping July 29

With a new quarterback at the helm and looking to put a disappointing 9-7 season behind them, the San Diego Chargers start Training Camp 2006 this Saturday, July 29, at Chargers Park.
Pro Bowl stars LaDainian Tomlinson, Antonio Gates, Shawne Merriman, Jamal Williams and Lorenzo Neal, along with new starting quarterback Philip Rivers, will open camp with their teammates, with practices slated for 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Along with seeing the players in action, fans will get an opportunity to see the 2006 Charger Girls from time to time, along with visits from former players.
Parking for fans around Chargers Park is limited. On weekdays, parking is available on the street behind (east of) the Holiday Inn located at 3805 Murphy Canyon Road. Overflow parking is available at the Holiday Inn. For weekend and night practices, parking is available in the PS Business Center lots along Murphy Canyon Road just south of Chargers Park. Parking on Murphy Canyon Road is allowed only on weekends.
Saturday, Aug. 5, will be a great opportunity for Chargers fans as FanFest 2006 returns to Qualcomm Stadium. Players will be signing autographs for fans 14 and under beginning at 10 a.m., followed by a performance by the Charger Girls and practice from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The team has scheduled special night practices at Chargers Park for Aug. 3, 9 and 22. The gates will open at 6:30 p.m., and fans will get a chance to meet the team before practice.
San Diego will kick off the pre-season slate of games on Saturday, Aug. 12, when they host the Green Bay Packers and future Hall of Famer Brett Favre. After traveling to Chicago on Aug. 19, the Chargers return for their pre-season home finale on Aug. 26 vs. Seattle. San Diego will conclude the pre-season by heading north to meet San Francisco on Sept. 1.
After opening the season on the road in Oakland, San Diego returns home to face quarterback Vince Young and the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, Sept. 17.
