SoCal Scorpions are ready to sting

Who needs to wait for the Chargers, when the SoCal Scorpions are poised and ready to strike?
So move over, boys, because the Scorpions are ready to kick off their season on Saturday, July 15 at their home field, La Jolla High’s Edwards Stadium, 750 Nautilus St.
The day runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free to everyone. Fans are invited to spend some time checking out this year’s team, getting autographs and buying merchandise. The team will also scrimmage.
Last season the team clinched the Western Division Title. This year, the Scorpions are ready to sting the competition, as they come fully loaded with key players and an experienced coaching staff that includes three coaches from San Diego State University and one with NFL experience.
“We look good,” offensive linewoman Jody Taylor said. “With the majority of returning vets “¦ the players are psyched.”
The Scorpions are already starting to set records as the longest operating women’s professional sports team in San Diego history, outlasting the San Diego Spirit, the women’s professional soccer team.
Last year’s Western Conference loss to Dallas was an “eye-opener” for the players, Taylor said, but management has cleaned house and built a good team.
The kick-off day July 15 is in preparation for the season opener the following Saturday. Those who come to Edwards Stadium to meet the players can load up on their Scorpions gear to show their support the next Saturday for the game against the LA Amazons.
“A lot of people don’t know they have a professional football team in their own backyard,” Taylor said.
Women’s Professional Football is a full-contact sport. The only differences between men’s and women’s football are the shorter length of the play clock and the smaller size of the football.
