Chargers fundraising program nets food bank $15,000

Union Bank, which maintains two branches in La Jolla, partnered with the San Diego Chargers to raise funds for the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank over the course of the Chargers’ 2014 season – the fundraising program, called Game Changers, culminated with a donation presentation at Chargers Park, where the San Diego Chargers joined Union Bank managing director Lawrence Henry to present $15,000 to the food bank.
“This is teamwork at its best,” Henry said – “Union Bank and the Chargers, working together with Chargers fans for the betterment of the San Diego community, have raised money that will make a substantial difference for those who face the threat of hunger. It is an honor to be involved with this program that supports the San Diego Food Bank and makes such a lasting impact.”
Every dollar donated to the food bank provides five meals to individuals and families in need in San Diego County.
“All of the credit goes to our fans,” said A. G. Spanos, Chargers executive vice president and CEO. “It’s great programs like Union Bank’s Game Changers that show how individuals and the corporate community can come together to make a difference by helping to provide meals to San Diego families.”
The program invited fans at Chargers home games to gather their loose change and dollar bills and donate at the Game Changers Mobile, which can tabulate money on the spot. Attendees also had the chance to win a variety of prizes, such as rally towels and football gear signed by Chargers players. Fans also had opportunities to win upgraded seats to watch the Chargers play.
Total donations were matched by the Union Bank Foundation and the San Diego Chargers.

Established in 1977, the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank advocates for the hungry and educates the public about hunger-related issues. In the fiscal year 2013-14, the food bank distributed over 22 million pounds of food to individuals, families and a network of nonprofit organizations that work to alleviate hunger throughout the county. Union Bank provides a spectrum of corporate, commercial, retail banking and wealth management solutions. The New York-based bank has assets of $113.7 billion.
