Three La Jolla companies were honored at this year’s Top Tech Awards on May 16 at the Exhibit Hall at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. National Funding, AristaMD, and Xeris Pharmaceuticals Inc., all won awards for their innovations that bolster the business, academic, governmental and non-profit communities in San Diego. The awards program is the largest in the region.
Employees at AristaMD — a platform that connects primary care providers and specialists to improve patients’ quality of care — nominated Director of Software Engineering Travis Fawcett for the “Start-Up” award who said he was humbled by the win.
“I followed the Top Tech Awards for quite a few years so I was humbled by the fact my company felt strong enough about my performance to nominate me for this prestigious award,” he said. “I was surprised by the nomination and even more shocked by winning.”
“AristaMD’s vision is to bring telemedicine to those who need it the most through innovative technology,” he continued. “AristaMD is determined to challenge the status quo of health care and deliver a forward-thinking model for helping patients throughout the United States overcome obstacles to access including financial and geographical barriers. This award, overall, represents a huge step forward for AristaMD’s goal of revolutionizing the delivery of health care.”
Geoff Howard, chief technology officer for the country-wide loans and financing company National Funding, won the award for “Private Medium.”
“Small business owners are constantly on the go, working hard to realize their dream and we are proud we are using technology to create an easy experience wherever they are,” Howard said. “Whether its a restaurant owner using their smartphone to apply for a loan or checkout online in minutes, a trucker on the road calling in with questions for a loan specialist, or a retail shop owner texting us while they assist customers, we use technology to make it convenient for small businesses to get a customized financing solution that fits their business needs.”
Frederick F. del Rosario, director of information technology at Xeris Pharmaceuticals Inc., won the “Public Small” award. He could not be reached for comment.
