MISSION BAY HIGH SCHOOL
• MBHS gives a big, warm Mission Bay Buccaneer welcome to Nella Landau, who is joining the MBHS team as the new vice principal. Landau is coming from Clairemont High School, where she worked as head counselor.
• The MBHS homecoming game is Friday, Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at University City High School. Join in on the fun cheering on the Bucs against La Jolla High School. Because of stadium construction, the game will be played at University City High School, 6949 Genesee Ave.
• Take a tour of Mission Bay High on one of the International Baccalaureate school tours this year. The tours begin at the front office at 8 a.m. and offer a slide show in the library and classroom visits. Tours for the 2014-15 school year take place from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on the following dates: Nov. 5, Dec. 17, Jan. 14, Jan. 29, Feb. 10, March 19 and April 16. Visit the International Baccalaureate pages to RSVP for the tour on the school website, www.sandi.net/mission-bay. For more information, email Shauna Fitzpatrick at [email protected].
• MBHS students will be traveling to Spain, France and Italy from June 19 to 30 this summer. Cities on tour include Madrid, Zaragoza, Barcelona, Provence, the French Riviera, Pisa, Florence, Assisi and Rome. PACIFIC BEACH MIDDLE SCHOOL
• PBMS welcomes Kimberly Meng as the new principal. Meng graduated from UCSD in 1995 with a degree in structural engineering but said she knew that it was not her calling. She put engineering experience to use and became a secondary-school math teacher, finding it incredibly rewarding. Meng transitioned out of the classroom to an administrative position, helping math teachers improve their craft in schools and at the University of San Diego. She served as principal at Rolando Park Elementary, and as vice principal at Taft, Clark and de Portola middle schools.
• The PBMS Music Department will host a rummage sale Saturday, Oct. 25, 8 a.m. to noon, in the PBMS parking lot off Felspar Street. Find some great deals while supporting the award-winning IB Music program. KATE SESSIONS ELEMENTARY
• Thank you, Sessions families. We reached our goal of $30,000 during our Sessions Contribution Drive.  Your support helps to provide our students with art, music, Spanish, library and much more. Your continued generosity is appreciated.
• The Running Club at Sessions has reached new strides. We have adopted a program that allows us to immediately provide feedback to our students regarding the numbers of laps they have run during the week, month and year. This new technology has improved our student participation in the Running Club and is a huge benefit to our annual Jog-a-Thon.
• Sessions now has a Dad’s Club/Pizza with Pops. This group will meet in the school auditorium on the first Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. This is an opportunity for our dads, uncles, grandfathers and brothers to actively participate in their child’s school.  Our first meeting was a smashing success. MBHS ALUMNI HOMECOMING 2014
Due to the ongoing construction of our new $12.5 million stadium, this year’s game against La Jolla High School will be played at University City High, 6949 Genesee Ave., on Friday, Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. The MBHS Alumni Association will attend the game, and there will be a designated alumni-seating section so we can all cheer the Bucs on to victory together. Immediately following the game, we will host an after-party, featuring the talented Jetpack Mojo (with MBHS alum musician Greg Fararr, class of 1981) starting at 8:30 p.m. at the Blackthorn Irish Pub and Grill, located at 3010 Clairemont Drive. There is no cover charge and this is an all-age venue. There will also be a raffle to benefit the MBHS Alumni Association. Help spread the word with your classmates and friends. All are welcome to join in the fun. FRIENDS OF PACIFIC BEACH SECONDARY SCHOOLS
FOPBSS is a parents organization that supports Pacific Beach Middle School and Mission Bay High School. If you would like to receive its email blasts, sign up at www.fopbss.org. FOPBSS will keep you well informed of PBMS and MBHS activities. The next FOPBSS meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 6 p.m. in the Pacific Beach Middle School library.
