Creepy Creeps and Low Volts headline Halloween show at the Casbah

It is hard to argue with Tim Lowman of Low Volts. “Why wait forever in bar lines for overpriced, watered-down drinks on Halloween, when you can do it right at the Casbah with down to earth, fun-loving people?” he said.

Halloween celebrations in San Diego are plenty, but choosing can be a total crapshoot. Who wants to pay $60 for the pleasure of navigating a port-a-potty while dressed in full costume?

Instead, Lowman invites music lovers to come out to the Casbah for a night of live music featuring Low Volts and the Creepy Creeps, Stephen Rey & The Sextrash, and Gary Shuffler’s Cramps cover band, Cramp’d.

“People should come to this show because it’s going to be the biggest, funnest, most kick-ass, rock-and-roll dance party in town for the least amount of money,” Lowman said.

He then outlined the rest of the evening, saying the night’s closing band, The Creepy Creeps, is one of his favorites.

“On the main stage, Stephen Rey & The Sextrash will get the party started with some stripped down rock ‘n’ roll,” Lowman said. “Gary Shuffler has put together a Cramps cover band called The Cramp’d, so this is a must see for any Cramps fans, as they don’t play on the regular.”

Usually flanked by wild go-go dancers, The Creepy Creeps are known for working crowds into a frenzy during their shows and are sure to pull out all the stops for Halloween.

“They are always in different costumes when they play, so I’m looking forward to seeing what they come up with for the Halloween show,” Lowman said.

To keep the entertainment going all night, Lowman will be playing his patented one-man show in the back bar, between the shows on the main stage. He will also be getting into the Halloween spirit by offering to help with costumes.

“The cool thing about the Casbah is having two rooms and a giant smoking patio, so there [are] different vibes all within one party,” he said. “I’ll be doing professional face and body airbrushing all night when I’m not playing, so you can put final touches on your costume or just have me zombie you out.”

Costumes are highly encouraged, if not outright required.

“What I love most about Halloween is seeing people’s inner selves come out,” Lowman said. “Something about Halloween just makes people lose all inhibitions and the freak flag just flies loud and proud,” he said. “Halloween needs to happen once a month.”

Tickets for the Casbah’s Halloween show on Wednesday, Oct. 31 are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. The Casbah is located at 2501 Kettner Blvd. For more information and tickets visit casbahmusic.com.
