Kelly Horrell, an 18-year-old high school student, won the Shop Hillcrest for the Holidays shopping spree sponsored by the Hillcrest Business Association.

By dropping a single ticket into the raffle at Mint Shoes on University Avenue, Horrell won over $2,000 in gift certificates to Hillcrest businesses.

After dining with her family at the Khyber Pass Restaurant in early December, Horrell went next door to Mint Shoes to enter the raffle.

“I’m overwhelmed and surprised and happy, really happy. I think it’s a good start to 2012,” she said, adding, “I think it’s a good omen.”

Though living in Carlsbad, Horrell said she and her family visit Hillcrest most weekends. She said she is excited about getting to shop in Hillcrest when she visits, especially at Urban Outfitters.

She said she doesn’t shop at Urban Outfitters a lot, but wishes she could. Now that she has the gift certificates, she said she will.

“I’m also excited the art supplies gift card,” Horrell said, referencing the prize from Artists and Craftsman Supply.

Prizes in the Fabulous Hillcrest Shopping Spree are gift certificates from Ami Sushi, Artists and Craftsman Supply, Babette Schwartz, Bamboo Lounge, Buffalo Exchange, Baja Betty’s, Brazen BBQ, Canine Lodge & Spa, Cathedral, Ciro’s Pizzeria, Crest Café, Column One, Gossip Grill, Hollywood Tans, Hillcrest Shell, Luna Grill, Lawrence Furniture, Martin and Wall, Mint Shoes, T-Deli, Pinkberry, Pretty Please, The Range Kitchen and Cocktails, The Wine Lover, Tokyo Blonde, Urban Mo’s and Urban Optiks Optometry.
