
‘Fleet Night of Science’

Reuben H. Fleet Science Center (1875 El Prado, Balboa Park) will wrap up a week of events coinciding with the San Diego Festival of Science and Engineering tonight. The “Fleet Night of Science” will have a superheroes theme and take a look at the science behind their super powers. Ticket holders will have access to all of the Fleet’s exhibits. There will be food and drinks (including cocktails) available for purchase as well. This event will take place from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. and is 21-and-up. Annual Kyoto Prize Symposium

The University of San Diego will host John Neumeier, the 2015 recipient of the Kyoto Prize in Arts and Philosophy at the school’s Shiley Theatre (5998 Alcala Park, Linda Vista). Neumeier is the preeminent artistic director and choreographer of Germany’s Hamburg Ballet. During the symposium – being held from 10:30 a.m. – noon – he will share his choreographic approach and lead four of the ballet’s principal dancers through demonstrations of his talents. In addition to that presentation, there will be a 90-minute series of ballet vignettes called “Shakespeare Danced” performed in the Shiley Theatre at 2:15 p.m. The events are free and open to the public but reservations are required. ‘Growing Perfect Tomatoes’ class

For these free gardening classes, Armstrong Garden Centers will give information on growing juicy tomatoes. Armstrong has a wide selection of tomato plants, which are easy to grow and perfect for beginning gardeners. Linda Vista 75th anniversary kick-off event

The first of several events to celebrate Linda Vista’s 75th anniversary will be held at the Linda Vista Shopping Center (6900 Linda Vista Road) from 2 – 4 p.m. There will be historic photos to view, food to enjoy, music and other festivities. Hemlock Society of San Diego meeting

The next meeting of this group will include a panel of professionals who work in memory care facilities designed to care for people with various kinds of dementia. They will discuss end-of-life choices in such facilities and the passage of the End of Life Option Act. The meeting is free and open to the public.
